Scottish Country Dance – November 15

Standard

RKB_Poster3On Friday, November 15, at Lakeside Presbyterian Church starting at 6:30 p.m., we will morph into our Irish céilí band status as Croí na Céilí but with a new twist as we jump into a new type of Celtic dance. We’ve been invited to perform for a Scottish Country Dance (or Ceilidh in Scottish Gaelic) and we’re delighted to have Rinthy Aman from the Scottish American Society of South Florida as dance caller. Rinthy will be teacher to any and all comers so beginners to advanced dancers are welcome. We’re also extremely pleased to have the extraordinary fiddle talents of Jason van Steenwyck join in for this new experience. Jason has recently taught the Summer Fiddle Workshop with Tir na mBláth, the southeast Florida Irish Cultural Organization. His breadth of knowledge for Celtic tunes and styles is remarkable!

This dance came about after conversions with Pastor Nathan McConnell, a graduate of King’s College, University of Aberdeen, Scotland. He recently qualified for Ordination in the Church of Scotland, and he now serves as Minister of Lakeside Presbyterian as well as adjunct professor at Palm Beach Atlantic University. Understandably, he is rightly proud of his Scottish heritage. Lakeside Presbyterian Church is one of the few in Palm Beach County that still carries on the tradition of the Kirkin of the Tartan, a service that celebrates Scotland and Scottish heritage. We are proud as well to perform for our Celtic brothers and sisters from the highlands and heather. This should be a real hoot, man!

Admission is $5. Bring a snack to share – wear your kilt if you dare!
