Strings in the Spring

Standard

Join us Sunday, March 2, from 3 to 6 p.m., in the Town of Palm Beach for Strings in the Spring.

Spring_Strings_02MAR14The Roaring Kelly Band is proud to participate in this year’s Strings in the Spring fundraiser to benefit Palm Beach Public School’s Orchestral Strings Program.  We’re also very pleased to share the stage with two fine local bands: The Short Straw Pickers and The Lahinch Mob.  Mr. Andy Matzkow has been the dedicated music director for Palm Beach Public’s incredibly successful Orchestral Strings Program for many years.  His students have gone on to make music in Palm Beach County’s Schools of the Arts, major in music at colleges and universities, and lead careers in music.

There’s no need to get on the soap box to explain the many benefits of exposure to music and learning an instrument for students (like higher test scores, better attendance, better study habits and the like) but I honestly don’t know of a better elementary school program for music education throughout the county.  Your support directly benefits the lives of children and for those who might assume that this program is something that only serves the children in the tony Town of Palm Beach, you would be oh, so very wrong.  These students are bused to school from West Palm Beach with half the students at Palm Beach Public qualifying for Free or Reduced Lunch. The school has a student race/ethnicity mix of one-third White, forty percent Hispanic, with the rest made up of Blacks or other groups.  It’s an incredibly successful school and you can see for yourself here.  You can be a part of fostering this wonderfully successful program and enjoying an afternoon of dynamic, live music to boot!

Tickets are only $10. Don’t wait until you get there, you can purchase them here (or by clicking on the poster image).  Kids under age 12 are free.  Pizza and drinks are for sale at the event and you can BYOB if you’re so inclined.

Directions: This event takes place in the Town of Palm Beach at the Recreation Center Field east of Palm Beach Public School (239 Cocoanut Row, Palm Beach, FL 33480).
